It's life changing once you start challenging the dogma of the side you align with just as much as you challenge that of your enemies/opponents.

DukkhaWaynhim

2 points

To a point - because it either paralyzes you with toxic cynicism against everything, or it gives you insight like, while no one side ever has it all correct, and there are always going to be bad allies. But, if you are lucky, you can identify a side that, no matter how flawed, is still trying to do the right thing, even if they sometimes screw it up in the process. It's almost as if the dogma itself is the problem, since it kills the critical thinking.

It's weird how the above paragraph also works like a horoscope, where you can read it and get exactly what you want out of it (i.e., re-confirm your bias).

xxxalt69420

So by that logic: just because, let’s say hypothetically, 1% gave him their life savings, the remaining 99% of donating supporters aren’t absolute fucking idiots too?

Yes you don't like Trump I get it. Neither do I, which is why I never voted for him.

Trump is the democrats' boogeyman. He's a distraction from actual issue and politics. What? You don't agree with how Afghanistan was handled? Well what about TRUMP? In favor of sane immigration policy? Well, did you know TRUMP also said things about immigration?

Here's a little uncomfortable fact. Biden has had the power to direct his justice dept to do whatever investigation / digging they could over the past 2+ years. They didn't, and they won't. Whether they are R or D, these folks protect each other. Biden won't prosecute Trump, because he doesn't want to be prosecuted himself. Every single president has dirty hands. There may be committees and panels. Someone will condemn someone. Someone will say someone acted unethically. In the end nothing will happen.

As long as you make Trump relevant he will be. If you want him to go away, stop responding to your party's propaganda. People on the right will forget too once you stop making everything about him.

Mental_Crew_7559

3 points

Case in point: The insider trading that happened within Congress at the start of The Pandemic™. A clear violation of the STOCK Act, which has not and will not be prosecuted. Both sides of the aisle participated in insider trading on information they were privy to because of their position in Congress, prior to informing the public of that information.

This is such an important point that Democrats still havent seemed to get. Whenever the right feel Trump is attacked unfairly, whether it’s the whole Russian collusion thing, impeachment, and now this prosecution thing his base and the right in general rallies around him, and goes into defense mode. If you want him to go away just ignore him, and the right is gonna find another guy to support like Ron DeSantis or whoever else

farble1670

2 points

You're right, they are only appointed by the presidents, and are supposed to be impartial and independent. They are selected because they hold views and agendas that are desirable to the president. The president doesn't direct them, they were selected because they planned to do his bidding.

If you disagree, I'd suggest you ask your D friends why they spent 4 years accusing Trump's appointees of doing his bidding. That's not possible right? This ain't Russia right, mah dude?

Here's another presidential appointee that's supposed to be unbiased and independent: supreme court. I hope you'll agree, mah dude, that supreme court nominees definitely do not execute the appointing party's agenda, right?

Of course your answer will be that Trump is bad man and while he did bad things, no president other than him ever did, or will.

Little folks can't do that. I'm not trying to defend the little guys, they are still commiting tax fraud after all, but the IRS should really go after the big guys too.

Can you guys explain in detail why you hate him? Here in the middle east hes probably the only president in the past 20 years who wasnt a complete asshole to us. But thats outside the US.

thebigmanhastherock

7 points

Depends on what middle eastern country you are from. He was a fairly big asshole to Iran. Of course I don't really care too much about that either.

Trump's original sin was that he has no clue about what he is talking about and has extremely simplistic and reactive opinions. He talked about Mexico sending rapists over to the US or something when he launched his campaign which isn't remotely accurate and is blatantly offensive. But a certain demographic in the US loved that he talked tough and didn't "talk like a politician."

He then proceeded to just kind of say a string of random stuff, he accused Ted Cruz's dad of being involved in the JFK assassination. He got into a feud with a family who lost their Marine son in combat, he got in a conflict with John McCain insulting his military background, he got in an argument about the size of his hands and just did general name calling eventually winning the Republican nomination in the process.

He then went on to accuse Hillary Clinton of a large array of things she had nothing to do with or were greatly misconstrued while also having tons of scandals exposed like a tape where he bragged about sexually assaulting women. Also footage of him emerged where he, right after 9/11 was talking about how Trump Tower would now be ranked higher on the list of tallest buildings in NY.

Then he somehow became president despite not winning the popular vote, meaning more than half of the people in the US didn't actually want him to be president.

He then proceeded to act extremely unpresidential he failed to stop undocumented or "illegal immigrants" from coming to the US but did successfully slow legal immigration. He also seperated children from their parents as a deterrent for crossing the border which set off a long and arduous process of reuniting those families later.

He got to nominate 3 supreme court justices and ripped the balance of the supreme court. All of his nominees were partisan and/or very religious and the end result was overturning abortion rights, and many other decisions liberals tended to dislike.

He used emergency powers to build a wall on the US/Mexican border that was completely useless and took money away from other projects.

He failed to actually help pass an infrastructure bill.

He did sign a tax cut which increased the deficit while the economy was growing and started trade wars with foreign countries mainly China but many others as well which set back US relations with many countries, this caused the fed to lower interest rates to stave off a recession all of this is contributing to the current inflation situation.

He took credit for things Obama did constantly like getting NATO to pay more towards security. He promised to repeal the ACA with no alternative.

He got remarkably little done on legislation when his party controlled both chambers or Congress the presidency.

He constantly got in fights with his own cabinet and people were constantly quiting.

He very likely obstructed investigations into his campaign and cabinet.

He handled the pandemic horribly setting off a course of events that would lead to the US having a completely non-uniform pandemic response.

He ended the Iran nuclear deal that may have been able to contain Iran.

He tried to get the president of Ukraine to find dirt on the son of his main political rival.

He told people to inject bleach into themselves

He decided to use racial unrest in 2020 to attempt to gain political points intentionally inflaming the situation like waving a bible around while seeming to impose marshall law.

He tried to negotiate with North Korea first using Twitter then actually doing it directly was a complete and utter waste of time, with the US achieving very little.

He constantly praised dictators and insulted democratically elected world leaders.

Then he literally tried to steal the 2020 election by trying to get state legislatures to overturn the results in their own states.

Then he spread lies about election fraud which eventually resulted in a riot where people tried to enter Congress and kidnap or even murder members of Congress and possibly Trump's own vice president.

There is probably much more. It was a wild ride.

Greenmind76

From the day he became a part of the political world he has lied, manipulated, and turned America against itself. He got his supporters so supportive they didn’t care what he did or who got hurt. Anyone who says anything negative about him is fake news, even if it’s his words or blatantly obvious…

Mostly I hate him because he was elected into a position of absolute power, spoke carelessly and without regard for how his words affected others, causing harming to people I cared about and in the process he created a demographic of people who would prefer to be ignorant and vote for more ignorant loud mouths…than seek the truth.

He’s a thorn of deceit and recklessness that infected this nation and got us to the point we are today. Social media and the media played a part as well…

I personally don’t like Biden and I didn’t like Hillary…but it was nice when Biden took office to know that someone I cared about wouldn’t be threatened by some bullshit tweet.

Salty_Bear2019

He's having almost all the mainstream media against him, knee deep in bogus legal troubles constantly, tried and failed in repealing Obamacare, Muslim ban and border wall construction due to political oppositions. I don't know what's your definition of absolute power but that sure doesn't look like absolute power to me.

Greenmind76

3 points

He said and did dumb shit and got law suits thrown at him. He broke rules, ignored advisors, tossed aside briefings, and treated the White House as his personal playhouse… that is when he wasn’t playing golf and charging the US millions to house secret service at his resort…

Obamacare helped a lot of people. He kept talking about replacing it with something better but whenever he was asked what that would be he could never produce anything other than “it will be the greatest and best system ever”.

I’m not sure if you’re saying he tried to repeal the Muslim ban or create one but Muslims are no more a threat to this country than any other religion. Based on recent events I would say Christian extremists are a much bigger threat.

The border wall was stupid. It was opposed because it was a huge waste of money and resources for a problem that doesn’t really exist… people like you just believe it’s a problem because you’ve been convinced immigrants are storming the country and taking jobs…when in reality those jobs have been shipped overseas for decades.

The power of his words and the way he used them gave him the means to manipulate the people who supported him, making him immune to legitimate criticism. Fortunately enough people saw through his bullshit and voted him out in 2020…but of course then we had to deal with years of “stolen election” nonsense and bullshit lawsuits.

Donald the con Trump is a grifter. Anyone who can’t see that is a victim of his con and simply too stubborn to realize they were played… or perhaps embarrassed. Any time he wants some more cash he’ll say something to make himself out to be the victim then his victims will come flooding in with donations. You think he hosted rallies to gain support? Bullshit he did it to sell the Trump brand and make money off merchandise. He’s no more presidential material than a televangelist with a private jet is a man of God.

I already said I didn’t like Biden but again your facts don’t check out…

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/mexican-president-thanks-biden-not-building-any-more-border-wall-pushes-amnesty

Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador on Tuesday praised President Biden for being the first U.S. leader "in a very long time" that has not built any additional wall at the U.S.-Mexico border, while also pushing for an amnesty for Mexican illegal immigrants — just as the Biden administration is scrambling to put the brakes on a two-yearlong migrant crisis.

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/mexico-agrees-provide-15-billion-help-us-manage-migrants-southern-bord-rcna37889

Now, Mexico has agreed to pay for a number of projects through a joint multiyear effort along the countries’ borders, including “modernizing” ports of entry and enhancing screening processes of immigrants trying to cross from Mexico to the U.S. The exact details of the new projects are still being worked out, but, the official said, the new agreement will not result in the building of any kind of wall or border barrier.

This is the difference between Biden and Trump. Trump comes up with ideas, spews them uncontrollably, then wonders why nobody wants to work with him. Biden looks for solutions that make sense (or at least are logical), negotiates, chooses his words carefully, and follows through.

As I said, I’m not a huge Biden fan. I just know he’s done more for this country than Trump ever did. It’s not nearly enough but at least he knows how to be a president, however terrible he might be.

“If you don’t fight like Hell, you’re not going to have a country any more;” “When you catch somebody in a fraud, you’re allowed to go by very different rules;” “You’ll never take back our country with weakness.”

Do those sound like the words of someone who was trying to be peaceful, or trying to make his followers peaceful in their coming actions?

[deleted]

They sound like generic platitudes his base wanted to hear. The charges would never stick because that quote is nowhere near enough to charge somebody.

And it shouldn't, really.

So, if that's grounds for treason, what do you think of a politician saying things like this?

"If you see anybody in a restaurant, in a department store, at a gasoline station, you get out and you create a crowd and you push back on them, and you tell them they're not welcome anymore, anywhere." Maxine Waters

"I just don't even know why there aren't uprisings all over the country; maybe there will be." / "And you've gotta be ready to throw a punch." Nany Pelosi

"You cannot be civil with a political party that wants to destroy what you stand for." Hilary Clinton

"Get up in the face of some congresspeople." Cory Booker

"There needs to be unrest in the streets for as long as there is unrest in our lives." Ayanna Pressley

"I think you need to go back and punch him (Donald Trump) in the face." Jon Tester

"I wish we were in high school so I could take him (Donald Trump) behind the gym." / "If we were in high school, I'd take him (Donald Trump) behind the gym and beat the hell out of him." Joe Biden

"This is a warning to you Trumpers; be careful, walk lightly. And for those of you who are Soldiers, make them pay." Cynthia Johnson

"Take him (Donald Trump) out now." Elizabeth Warren

What “whole establishment” are you talking about? He still has a fuck ton amount of crazy ass supporters and is leading the polls for Republican electorates.

As for lack of evidence, you and I both know if anyone but a rich powerful guy said and did half the stuff he’s flat out admitted to saying and doing, he’d be in waaaaaay more trouble than he currently is.

Jeffrey Epstein. Elizabeth Holmes. Bill Cosby. Martha Stewart. Harvey Weinstein. Aunt Becky from Full House.

Just because some rich people go to jail doesn't mean the system isn't heavily biased in their favour. Their money and connections let them pay for the best lawyers, exert pressure on politicians and judges in the area, pay people off, and reach settlements with their accusers. For the most part, for a rich person to go to jail they have to do something that fucks over other rich people in some way, or do something so bad and public it can't be ignored.

Hell Epstein only got a slap on the wrist for sexually abusing underage girls the first time he was convicted. 13 months in jail where his cell door was left unlocked, and he was allowed to leave on work release 12 hours a day 6 days a week.

[deleted]

2 points

It isn't just being rich you also have to be connected enough also to avoid ever doing any time. Lot of rich people get banged up Andrew Tate, R Kelly, Martin Skreli, Phil Spector, Martha Stewart.

Cohen paid porn actress Stormy Daniels $130,000 through a shell company Cohen set up. He was then reimbursed by Trump, whose company logged the reimbursements as legal expenses.

But then evidence of him bribing people comes up but it’s ok ? If you want to lock Hillary up for crimes that’s fine , if she committed crimes she should get put in jail for those crimes but just because you worship this potato it’s wrong for him to get accused
