Anakin was too obsessed with growing stronger. When given the choice between not getting more powerful and being with Padme, he chose to try and keep both.

I didn't read the novels, but I would figure that witnessing the death of his mother was a turning point in his personal views. The powerless don't get safety, and Padme was powerless to things like assassins, fate, and choking.

If Anakin had left the order, Palpatine still would have swooped in to give him a role with the GAR. Then he would have continued to feed Anakin suspicions about Jedi treachery. He would have eventually revealed himself as the Sith Lord, and told Anakin the Jedi attempted a coup, then set him on them just as he did in Operation Knightfall.
140 points
I don't think this would happen, not involving Anakin in the GAR anyway. While Palps had been grooming Anakin for years, the only thing that really kept Anakin coming back was saving Padme. If Anakin quit, he likely would've stopped seeing that nightmarish vision of her dying in childbirth, and he would've been outside of Palps control
61 points

Theres no way padme would sit out the war, esp if palp dragged naboo into it. Of that happens, anakins back in, and this time tgeres no jedi ordef to steer him right. Just him and palps truing to make things safe for his new young family that are totally not going to end up as targets to keep anakin involved

I believe Palpatine used the force to influence Anakin to have those visions. However, I believe that if Anakin weren't in the Jedi Order or the Clone Wars, it would have been very easy for him to realize, "Wait a minute, not only are we rich as fuck, but my wife is also in the fucking government! There's no way we don't have access to the best healthcare in the entire galaxy. The odds are less than one in a trillion of her dying in childbirth."

Padme straight up points this out to Jim in the ROTS novel (best sw book BTW pls read).
Anakin is just that paranoid. Having preventative measures to keep her alive isn't enough, no amount of medical assistant is enough, i don't even think force healing would be enough.
He wants to circumvent death as possibility at all. And such unnatural power doesn't exist. That he knows.

I'm gonna be real with you, this is the conversation Obi-Wan needed to have with Anakin. It's very obvious to everyone that Anakin is not happy with the order, and that the padame anakin situation was not going to be kept "secret" once anakins battlefield prowess was no longer needed for the orders survival. The situation was a ticking time bomb from the start but neither the council nor Obi-Wan even really understood there was a bomb, just a jedi who needed more training.
Obi-Wan needed to help detach Anakins sense of selfworth from the order and help him to realize that he could still lead a happy fulfilled life without the councils acceptance. Anakin's anger and rebellion is anger at himself for never being "good enough" for the jedi, but he'll never be "good enough" because he was "trained wrong" from the start. Anakin is not a weapon to be thrown against the CIS then discarded, he is a person. Qui-gon knew that the order was no longer serving its purpose, and could have helped Anakin see himself as something other than a "bad egg" jedi, but Obi-Wan saw the push back Qui-Gon got from the order and "rebelled" by following the order to the letter.
Obi-Wan's tragic flaw is that he's too good of a jedi to realize that the very existence of the Clone Wars is a problem beyond the abilities of the old order, let alone how to handle Anakin, and that he needed to start looking outside it for answers. The same strength of character that stopped him from leaving the order to go a live with Satine, prevented him from falling to the dark side after Qui-Gong died, after Satine died, kept him on the light side after the fall of the order, and fighting for Luke after losing literally everything is also the thing that kept him from stopping the fall of the order to the dark side in the first place.
Luke, sans silly Disney retcons, is the hero because he learns how to be a jedi from Obi-Wan, realizes their flaws, but still refuses to embrace the dark side. Instead he redefines and reshapes the jedi to embrace love, rather than running from it. Luke understood that attachment can be a sorce of strength for everyone's betterment, and can be used to save people, rather than simply an obstacle to be manipulated by outside forces.

Absolutely, Filoni is fantastic at getting this
There's a moment in the clone wars finale when obiwan sarcastically but light heartedly calls him out for talking to padme, and aniken gets really dark and sour. It's like obiwan, your a good dude, and your frustrated that your Palawan doesn't trust you after all these years. But you value Anakin for more than just his jedi skills and ability to listen to the council. The council doesn't, and Anakins whole self image is wrapped up in what they think of him. Just let him know that the council isn't all he thinks it is.
Edit: now that i think about it, the obi pademe scene mightve been in the bad batch intro episode. Wherever it was I appreciate the scene a lot.

No, he initially left because he grew disillusioned with the Jedi (though not quite a Sith yet) and Serenno was in need of a ruler. The Jedi were sad to see him go, but respected his choice. He had briefly used the Dark Side before, but that wasn't his motivation when he left them.

Why do you think that? Have you seen that written or said anywhere? Because it kinda sounds like you’re assuming that based on their whole stance on non-attachment.
Quotes from Wookiepedia, taken from on the Sourcebooks:
“Jedi were discouraged from keeping more than a few essential belongings”
“It was rare for a Jedi to possess more than they could carry on their person at one time”
Implying that they can and do own things, but owning anything frivolous was discouraged. A lightsaber isn’t frivolous. And nothing in any of the media indicates that the Order or the Jedi in it see the lightsabers as some sort of non-personal property.

Anakin believes in this religion with his very being. It saved him from slavery, and it is where he can fight for the republic.

The Jedi didnt exactly betray Ahsoka. They removed her from the order so she could stand trial as it was feared the jedi would be biased in her favour. Thats literally what you’re supposed to do. A trial by a neutral party.
And its not “ literally a religion”, its not even a religion in-universe. You think cause the places they live are called temples that makes them a religion? If we renamed them to “laboratories” would that make it better? What do they even worship. Theres no god or anything for them to believe in. They’re closer to nuclear physicists. Than they are to priests. Scientists who study the principle facets off the universe.
And if Dooku left so he could take care of his people, why doesnt Anakin leave to he can take care of his wife?

And finally, learn the vast differences between Dooku and Anakin. As well as the astonishing difference between an entire planet vs 1 person
3 points
It might help if you explained at least some of your reasoning.
Lets look at the Definition of Religion then
Religion
the belief in, and worship of, a superhuman power or powers, especially a God or gods
The force is a natural part of the Star Wars universe. As natural as gravity. To us it may be superhuman, but to them its very much just a fact of life. Most people being ignorant about it doesn’t change this fact. Most people are ignorant of how evolution works, Doesn’t make it any less real. They don’t worship it.
You’re acting like believing in gravity is a sign of religion.
Cult
a system of religious veneration and devotion directed towards a particular figure or object.
They don't religiously venerate the force. They know it exists, they recognise its influence on the galaxy, and they work with it to ensure balance. But they don't venerate it. It is simply a fact of life.
Jedi
a member of the mystical knightly order in the Star Wars films, trained to guard peace and justice in the Universe.
mystical
inspiring a sense of spiritual mystery, awe, and fascination. "the mystical city of Kathmandu"
I mean yeah. They are mystical, most people in the galaxy treat them as more a legend than reality. Awe inspiring saviours of the downtrodden. They're also knights funnily enough. And they are trained to guard peace and justice in the Universe. Wow, so cool. What was the point of asking me to google Jedi?

-1 points

I dunno...once you start getting into light side vs. dark side and which is better without being able to objectively prove it despite them being 2 quantifiable forces in the universe, you start getting into religion territory. Just my 2 cents.
3 points
I mean, we can actually objectively prove which is better. Its never really been up for debate. We know exactly how the force and “balance” works.
The force is a fundamental energy thingy of the universe. It exists, and everything just goes about their day. There’s Harmony. The Darkside then exists as a corruptor. It works to unbalance the scales, creates chaos and disorder. Disharmony. This is when the force is out of balance.
The Sith are the most obvious example of the Darkside, acting to unbalance the force, which is why destroying the Sith is meant to bring balance to the force. Because you stop this corrupting influence, contain it, and restore the scales to equilibrium.
In a different franchise you could get into looking at the greyer side of morality. “Is chaos a bad thing”, all that stuff. But starwars isnt that franchise. It has, and has always had, a very black and white view of the force. Theres no nuance, the sith is evil and the darkside is bad. Its boring but true. George Lucas has been very clear on this fact. Theres no “religious debate” on the topic like there is on things like Catholics vs Protestants.
Hope this answered your question.

The Jedi didnt exactly betray Ahsoka. They removed her from the order so she could stand trial as it was feared the jedi would be biased in her favour. Thats literally what you’re supposed to do. A trial by a neutral party.
They also raised Ahsoka since she was literally a baby and taught her everything she knows about life. She is their responsibility, and in following procedure rather than standing by her, they abdicated that responsibility. It was clear in that court case that while the evidence was against Ahsoka, there was more to the story and the defense needed more time for it to be uncovered. Their job at that moment was to make sure she got the time she/her investigators needed to uncover that story, but the council never believed in her and played politics instead.
This is because science has taken over the social role of religion. Both are methods of explaining reality, one using theology and subjective training, one using objectively repeatable tests. Jedi skills may be immediately and obviously real things but they're still meditation based enlightenment training, so the jedi really have a foot in each door.

I like this alternate scenario but it probably never would've happened. Every event that transpired across the various media surrounding Anakin's journey to the Dark Side cements the idea that he needed to stay a Jedi, train under various masters and eventually gain access to the restricted section of the Jedi archives.
Episode II is for many a very forgettable movie but it explains very well why Anakin wouldn't leave the Order, he says "One day, I will become the greatest Jedi ever. I will even learn how to stop people from dying." This isn't something he says just because he's an ambitious youngster, he says this because so much bad shit happened that he feels like, if he had absolute power then he could stop all these bad things from happening.
This is Anakin's whole motivation, even from Episode I when we first meet him.

But internal trauma wise, if his path wasn't with the Jedi & to do some ultimate good in the world then leaving his mom, not being around to prevent her fate, all that pain would have been for nothing. I really wish they had been more complex with Anakin's feelings in these films there is so much to work with.

Unfortunately, as long as Palpatine held any sway or power, there was no way Anakin was getting out clean. None whatsoever
He would've found some way to turn him to the dark side. One way or another, he would have his prized apprentice

Or take the Ahsoka approach and become a freelancer aiding the Republic, or a special consultant or something. You get to remain General Skywalker commanding the 501st and openly reprimand your troops for gunship nose art of your scantily clad wife.

You showed me something today. You're exactly the kind of men I need in the 501st.

He was obsessed with avoiding losing what he loved. That’s why he promises her to become the most powerful Jedi in history. He was so afraid of losing that the chase of power left him with no real power and losing everything.
Being a Jedi Knight in a galactic conflict is a great way to obtain power. Therefore he would never quit.

this honestly should have been palpetines pitch to him. Make anakin realize he’s still a slave just to a different master but sith can do whatever the fuck they want. It’s of course a trick, and anakin becomes a slave to the dark side. But when he redeems himself and chucks the emperor into the ship engine, he’s finally for the first time a free man, and he dies being held by his son.

The moral of the story here is always pick your family over your career.

That raises a genuine question, ignore palpatine for a second, if Anakin left the order could he have just joined the GAR as a non Jedi? Considering his own connections and reputation, as well as Padme’s, he probably could have kept fighting the war exactly as normal without being a Jedi anymore

If this was a manga, it would be called "How I quit the Jedi order and became a house husband."

Quitting the Jedi order would likely get him labeled a Sith and the Jedi would hunt him down. The Jedi really had to look for reasons to continue their existence with no visible threat justifying their use of tax payer money.
Also considering the whole history with Darth Revan. The Jedi would like stop this behavior to stop themselves from losing control. If Jedi could just leave, we'd see a ton of force sensitive people just walking around.
This is my theory.

they didn't hunt ahsoka after she quit

She was convicted of sedition and fled into hiding. Didn't really need the Jedi to do that.

Turning your back on the Jedi Order certainly doesn't make you a target. Certainly not.

I mean it shouldn’t if you don’t directly oppose them, and considering the connections and military feats Anakin has he probably could keep his rank in teh GAR as a non-Jedi combattant, at which point no one syould really blame him

For over a thousand generations, the Jedi Knights were the guardians of peace and justice in the Old Republic. Before the dark times, before the Empire.

Request: First, Master, I would appreciate it if Jedi need to be killed, that you permit me to kill those annoying pseudo-pacifists for you.
