I remember going to a college Halloween party not long after and the winning costume was Dead Payne Stewart.

The Matrix. Walked out of the theater questioning the reality of everything on the street outside. Like nothing we’d ever seen before.

I’m guessing all AI generated images? Pretty cool use of it.

Wrong. Mine had buttons that were vertical, not slanted. Totally different.

Oof. Yup, I’ve done this, even after I put a post-it on my dash that my bike was up there, but luckily I didn’t have any car damage. It did show me how tough carbon bike frame are, though.

Old workplace encouraged it, but I don’t think it was policy. We’d fly to separately Southeast Asia from the US on the safest form of travel, a commercial airline, but then we’ll all pile into the same shitbox factory transport van driven by a guy who thought nothing of driving into oncoming traffic on an almost-dirt road at 50MPH to get around a cold war-area truck carrying 1000 chickens about to topple over.

I worked there in the 90’s in Wisconsin, graduated from working at Wendy’s. Good memories, too, back in the days when they would still carve steaks in the window but after they would hang sides of beef. You’re right, the bread was great, and I still remember the smell in the morning if I was opening that day. We’d make grilled cheeses, mixing all the cheese options.

I just changed my phone number. Pretty quick process with T-Mobile, but letting important people know plus changing all the 2-factor accounts I have was a little laborious, but still took less than an hour total. I also wanted a local area code number anyway.

I was surfing yesterday (Los Angeles area) and my car was broken into and my iPhone 13 Pro along with my MagSafe wallet with ID and physical cc cards were stolen. They went straight to the Apple Store and purchased $9200 of stuff on my physical Amex card. When Amex texted me about a potential fraudulent charge, they were able to reply with "1" i.e., this is an approved charge, from the locked screen. Turns out this feature is on by default on the latest iOS.
I didn't know about any of this until I got back to my car, realized my phone and wallet were gone, and then checked the messages on my Apple Watch. There isn't great service at the beach I was at (esp. on Apple Watch) so I didn't get the initial message from Amex. I called Amex on my watch from the police station and thankfully I'm not responsible for the charges, plus I had theft and loss coverage on the iPhone, which I had forgotten about.
Just got my new phone and immediately looked up how to turn this feature off, I suggest it for everyone.

True. If I was one major street over in the northbound lane I’d technically be in LA, Harbor Gateway. How about, “another near miss in almost LA”?

I do not miss this having grown up in southeast WI. Glad I’m in LA where people always drive carefully and predictably. :/

My wife worked in a video store in the early 2000’s. The manager put the porn titles on the highest shelf, and they placed the popcorn machine opposite on the floor. Kids would try to look way up, slowly backing away, and would eventually bump into the popcorn machine. Whenever employees heard the rattle of the popcorn machine, they’d always chuckle, “got another one!”

You should watch the Netflix documentary about them, it goes through the whole rebranding plus all the f’d up things they did in the 90’s.

8 year old me begged to order this video when the commercial came on. 40-something me realizes how unfunny Dorf actually was.
